Listen and study the Italian masters
of opera in the heart of Tuscany
During our course on Italian opera libretti, you’ll study the operas of the greatest Italian and international masters, authors of the most beautiful arias in Italian language. Since Tuscany, the cradle of the Italian language, has been the homeland of great composers, our course is an authentic homage to their legacy.
Immersed in the beauty of the Casentino valley and in the suspended time of a medieval village, you’ll listen to Puccini, Verdi and Mozart’s arias and discover the magic of opera language, of its innate musicality that has encouraged great international composers to write in Italian some of their most famous libretti.
The course on Italian opera libretti lasts one week and requires a minimum Italian knowledge. It is a course conceived for opera and Italian language enthusiasts, but we recommend it only to those who have a B1 – or higher - Italian linguistic level (check it at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_European_Framework_of_Reference_for_Languages).
THE COURSE
Our course on Italian opera libretti consists of 20 fifty-minute lessons in the morning, from 9 AM to 12:40 PM. All our lessons are held in Italian, but ‘in case of emergency’ all our teachers are fluent English speakers.
The morning grammar
The first two lessons (9-10:40 AM) of the day are focused on grammar topics, with an in-depth analysis useful to study the Italian opera language. All our grammar teachers are native speakers, graduated and qualified to teach Italian as a foreign language. Their grammar lessons always fit for the linguistic level of the group and become an essential tool for the comprehension of Italian opera libretti.
An Italian coffee break
The 20-minute break between the two lesson blocks is all-Italian. In our school there isn’t any vending machine: we never miss the chance of making conversation and a coffee break is perfect to have a chat and learn Italian conversation with local people at the bar.

After the grammar lessons, it’s time to discover the most beautiful Italian opera libretti. We’ll listen to Puccini and Verdi’s arias and those belonging to the Italian period of Mozart. You’ll have the chance to appreciate their beauty and the musicality of Italian. Together, we can exchange each other’s opinion and start debates about the most interesting characters of Italian opera.

Once back home, don’t let your everyday life, your work and the distance from Italy keep you away from Italian language. The school offers a continuous learning program with private lessons on Skype held by the same teachers you met in Poppi.
